The main objectives of the programme

The major objectives of the curriculum is to provide advanced training at postgraduate level leading to Post-graduate Diploma in Environmental Engineering and Management and in Water Resources Engineering and Management. It may be noted that the word Environmental in the current context does not refer only to water releted problems of the industrial environment.
The general objectives of the Department are consistent with the realization of the national needs in terms of manpower development.

Subsequently the Department sets out to:

(a) Produce well qualified graduates who will:
(i) Assist in the exploration, exploitation, evaluation and management of the nation’s water resources potential.
(ii) Work on water supply and sanitation projects.
(iii) Assist in the assessment and evaluation of River Basin projects.
(iv) Be involved in the formulation, design and construction of irrigation and drainage works, reservoirs and dams, barrages, ports and harbours and hydropower schemes.
(v) Carry out research activities and consultancy.
(b) Set up a postgraduate programme for staff development and production of high level manpower to meet national needs.
(c) Organize workshops and seminars and short courses for practising engineers.
